Lunuganga an Estate now known as Bawa gardens was started in 1947 and was the country home of the renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. He continued to change and experiment with its spaces and structures and gardens throughout his life. Lunuganga garden is a half hour drive from Bentota. Lunuganga estate is set in the wet zone where average temperatures range from 27 degrees in November to February to 33 degrees during the day from March to July. The South west monsoon brings intermittent torrential rain in May and June and with November to March being mostly dry and sunny.
